IRVINE, Calif. – Concordia University Irvine men's basketball opened the season with strong defensive play, led by sophomore forward Nick Corbett, who earned the first PacWest Defender of the Week honor of the 2025 campaign.

Corbett made an immediate impact defensively, pulling down 14 rebounds against Cal State LA and delivering a standout performance in his collegiate debut. Across CUI's two wins to start the season, he totaled 26 rebounds and is averaging 13.0 rebounds per game, quickly positioning himself among the conference's top rebounders.

His ability to track down missed shots, limit second-chance opportunities, and extend possessions was a key factor in both victories to open the season.

CUI now prepares for its next contest with Corbett continuing to emerge as a reliable and high-impact contributor early in his freshman year.
