ALLENDALE, Mich. - The CUI Track and Field team made a strong statement on Day 1 of the Big Meet at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan. With a mix of personal bests, school records, and standout performances, the Eagles are off to a great start at one of the largest NCAA Division II indoor track and field meets in the country. The team is ready to build on their success and keep the energy going into Day 2.
Gavin Hellerstedt kicked things off with a bang, running a 24-second personal best in the 5000m, finishing with a time of 15:41.16. This impressive performance set the tone for what was to come.Â
Max Castin delivered a strong performance in the high jump, finishing 8th and matching his season's best. His consistent efforts continue to be a valuable asset to the team. Garrett Miller and Colin Bervig also had impressive showings, both setting new personal records. Miller finished 4th and Bervig took 6th, demonstrating their ability to compete at a high level and push their boundaries.
Parker Williams made a big impact in the 60m hurdles, qualifying for the finals and running a personal best of 8.05 in the final. This performance ranked him 23rd in the nation and placed him at number 1 in the West, making it one of the day's standout moments.
Jasmyn Crawford stole the spotlight in the 200m dash, setting a new school record with an amazing time of 24.48. Not only was this a school record, but it also earned her a national provisional mark!
Taylor Whitfield broke another school record for CUI, finishing the 3000m in 9:43.83. Her record-setting performance is another huge milestone for the team.
