CUI Track and Field Highlights from Day 1 & 2 at MT. SAC Kamaka Open

WALNUT, Calif. – The CUI Track and Field team kicked off the MT. SAC Kamaka Open with an exciting Day 1 of competition, highlighted by strong individual performances and impressive results across the board. After a solid start, the Eagles are building momentum for the rest of the meet.

In the men's decathlon, Kahiau Helm placed 7th in the shot put with a throw of 9.42m. His performance in the other events of the decathlon was solid but did not lead to top finishes.

For the women, Riley Norris was a standout in the heptathlon, finishing Day 1 in 1st place, while Leah Powick was close behind in 4th. Norris posted a 2nd-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.61 seconds, and also took 1st in the high jump with a jump of 1.58m. Powick placed 1st in the shot put with a throw of 10.82m, while Norris followed up with a 3rd-place finish at 10.17m. Norris capped off her day with a 1st-place finish in the 200-meter dash, running a time of 26.01 seconds.

Friday's Highlights:

Kahiau Helm placed 5th in the javelin throw with a mark of 40.21m.

On the women's side, Riley Norris continued her strong showing, placing 2nd in the long jump with a mark of 5.06m. She followed that with a 1st-place finish in the javelin throw at 28.40m and a 1st place in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:22.38. Leah Powick also had a strong performance, taking 3rd in the long jump with a mark of 4.75m, 2nd in the javelin throw at 27.70m, and 4th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:35.06.

Day 3 continues tomorrow at 12:00 PM at the MT. SAC Kamaka Open.
