WALNUT, Calif. – The CUI Track and Field team delivered an exciting day of performances on Day 3 of the Mt. SAC Kamaka Open, with several personal bests, podium finishes, and standout efforts across both the men's and women's events. The Eagles showed their readiness for the upcoming challenges and proved they're in excellent form as the outdoor season continues.
Whitney Griffith led the charge in the women's javelin, throwing 38.96m to take first place. Although just shy of the school record, her performance set a personal best, marking a major highlight of the day. Harper Forshee also had a strong showing, finishing 4th with a throw of 35.75m, which was a new personal best for her.
In the women's long jump, Alexandra Ortiz kicked off her season with a 5.15m leap that helped her win her flight and finish 4th overall in the finals.
The women's shot put saw several excellent results, with Jasmyn Rios taking 2nd place with a throw of 11.79m. Tayla Crenshaw earned a 3rd-place finish, and both Elenise Fotu and Whitney Griffith set new personal bests. Sydney Cassens also had a strong showing, finishing 6th and achieving a personal best.
In the men's shot put, Trey Vergenz claimed 2nd place with a personal best throw of 16.41m. Ryan Santana secured 3rd place with a throw of 15.11m, and Tim Weller placed 4th with a personal best of 15.09m. Hunter Hornaday finished 5th with a 14.76m throw, while Jameel Naber rounded out the group in 10th with a throw of 13.08m.
Giovana Pelascini was a standout in the women's 100m hurdles, winning the event with a personal best time of 14.54. Kailyn Krebs also had a solid performance, finishing 3rd overall in 16.27. Madison Fearon competed well, adding to the team's strength in the hurdles.
In the women's 400m, Pelascini continued her strong showing with a 57.23 finish. Anna Tucker set a personal best of 59.11, and Zakiya Nunez ran a big personal best with a time of 59.29, demonstrating their improvement.
In the women's 1500m, Audrey Barcenas ran to victory in the second heat with a time of 4:57.90, continuing to show her strength in middle-distance events.
The men's 400m saw a strong debut from Hunter Dickinson, who finished his first college race with a time of 55.38.
Veronica Campbell had a breakout performance in the women's 100m, running a personal best of 12.46 to continue her strong season.
In the women's 800m, Jori Paradis finished in 2:14.12, while Priscella Gomez crossed the line in 2:25.18, both performances showing their potential as the season progresses.
With Day 3 now complete, the Eagles are looking forward to their next challenge. The team will head to the Ben Brown Invitational on March 7th at Cal State Fullerton, eager to build on their strong performances and continue to push for personal bests and top finishes.
