LONG BEACH, Calif. – The CUI Track and Field team had a solid start on Day 1 at the Long Beach State Beach Opener, with several athletes setting personal bests and delivering strong performances. Building on their experience from previous meets, the Eagles are continuing to improve as the season progresses.
Whitney Griffith led the way in the women's javelin, finishing 6th with a new personal best of 39.16 meters, which ranks her 2nd all-time in program history. Harper Forshee also impressed with a personal best of 37.69 meters, placing 8th and moving into 5th place on the program's all-time list.
In the men's hammer throw, Trey Vergenz set a personal best of 50.62 meters, earning 3rd place in the second flight. Hunter Hornaday threw 42.56 meters to finish 5th in the first flight.
On the women's side of the hammer throw, Isabella Torrez placed 3rd in the first flight with a mark of 41.86 meters, while Ashley Heyer finished 5th with a throw of 41.10 meters. Khaiya Simpson rounded out the day with a throw of 44.47 meters, placing 10th in the second flight.
With Day 2 set to begin at 10:00 AM PT tomorrow, the Eagles are looking to build on their strong performances and continue their success at the Beach Opener.
