LONG BEACH, Calif. – The CUI Track and Field team delivered several impressive performances on Day 2 of the Long Beach State Beach Opener, highlighted by Joshua Collier setting a new school record in the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 14.56 seconds and Jasmyn Crawford qualifying for Nationals in the long jump with a mark of 6.25 meters. The Eagles saw a mix of personal bests and solid finishes across various events.
In the 110m hurdles, Parker Williams continued his strong season, running a nationally ranked 14.14 to lead the field. Joshua Collier set a new school record in the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 14.56, finishing 5th in the conference with this personal achievement.
The women's 4x100m relay team, featuring Zakiya Nunez, Ruby Bishop, Logan Nelson, and Veronica Campbell, completed their race, contributing to the team's overall efforts.
In the men's shot put, Tim Weller set a personal best with a throw of 15.43 meters, while Trey Vergenz also posted a personal best of 16.50 meters, finishing 4th in the meet.
In the men's discus, Tim Weller threw 50.25 meters, placing 2nd in the conference, further solidifying his position as one of the top performers in his event.
For the women's discus, Ashley Heyer achieved a personal best of 38.51 meters, continuing to show growth in the field events.
In the women's long jump, Jasmyn Crawford jumped 6.25 meters, qualifying for Nationals in the outdoor long jump. Additionally, Alexandra Ortiz leaped to a personal best of 5.33 meters, earning 3rd place in the PAC West. On the men's side, Dylan Fox jumped 7.01 meters, finishing 2nd in the PAC West.
Telma Kristjansson made her mark with a 1.66-meter clearance in the high jump, setting a new collegiate best.
In the women's 400m, Zakiya Nunez set a personal best of 58.65 seconds, finishing 11th in the PAC West, while Ruby Bishop also set a personal best of 58.08 seconds. Jaela Thornburg ran a personal best of 59.2 seconds, placing 13th in the West.
For the men's 400m, Denilson Mendoza posted a time of 50.8 seconds, while Tyler Harvey ran a season's best 11.09 seconds in the 100m, which ranks him 10th in the PAC West, and followed that up with a collegiate best of 22.17 seconds in the 200m.
In the women's 100m, Veronica Campbell set a personal best with 12.29 seconds, and Jasmyn Crawford won the event with a personal best of 11.71 seconds. Nataleah Yanez also ran a personal best of 12.37 seconds.
For the women's 200m, Jasmyn Crawford set another personal best of 24.06 seconds, while Veronica Campbell finished with 24.90 seconds, and Ruby Bishop ran a personal best of 25.29 seconds.
The women's 4x400m relay team, consisting of Kailyn Krebs, Giovana Pelascini, Riley Norris, and Jaela Thornburg, finished 4th in their race. The men's 4x400m relay team, featuring Ruby Bishop, Logan Nelson, Madison Fearon, and Anna Tucker, placed 7th.
With numerous personal bests and strong performances across multiple events, the CUI Track and Field team continues to improve as they progress through the season.
The next meet for the CUI Track and Field team will be Thursday, March 13 at 11:00 AM at Orange Coast College.
