Vergenz Named Men's Field Athlete of the Meet After Winning Three Events!

FRESNO, Calif. - The CUI track and field teams had a big weekend at the PacWest Conference Championships, setting school records and earning multiple first-place finishes.

Day 1

It was a historic opening day for the Golden Eagles. In the women's hammer throw, Tayla Crenshaw delivered a clutch performance, earning second place with a toss of 49.35 meters. Khaiya Simpson also showed out, placing seventh with a mark of 44.11 meters.

On the men's side, Trey Vergenz shattered the school record in the hammer throw with a massive 57.89-meter effort, winning the event and hitting a national provisional qualifying mark.

In the sprints, Jasmyn Crawford set the track on fire with a record-breaking run in the women's 100m, clocking an incredible 11.52 seconds. Her time ranks her 14th nationally which is a huge breakthrough performance.

Dylan Fox won the men's long jump with a mark of 7.51 meters. Dustin Berger won the men's steeplechase with a time of 9:18.81.

Parker Williams also etched his name into the record books, setting a new school record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.98 seconds.

Day 2

On the second day, Trey Vergenz continued his success, winning the shot put with a final throw of 16.03 meters and the discus with a personal best of 52.60 meters.

His outstanding two-day performance made Vergenz a strong candidate for Outstanding Field Athlete of the Meet, which he won for the second straight year!

In addition, a phenomenal performance by second-year Golden Eagle Giovana Pelascini in the heptathlon catapulted her to set a new school record. She compiled 4,894 points to break her own school record that she set in 2024.

The Golden Eagles now shift their focus to the Steve Scott Invitational at UC Irvine, scheduled for May 2nd and 3rd, with events beginning at 9:00 AM both days.

Stay tuned as the Golden Eagles continue to build on their impressive achievements this season!
