Box Score 2 Irvine, Calif. In the second day of the UCI tournament hosted at Anteater Aquatics Center, The Golden Eagles split the day going 1-1. Senior Sam Diamond set a record for the Golden Eagles and passed his former teammate in recorded assists, setting the record at 76.
CUI 20, Chapman 12
The Golden Eagles improved their record in a game against the Panthers from Chapman. CUI scored against the Panthers in each period, and there were several Golden Eagles that contributed to this. Newcomer Porter Rosenlof netted three goals along with one assist. Hugo Wouters added two goals and two assists to the group. Oscar Garcia Blomback added two goals and one assist, Carter Clenney scored again and Kaliq Khan scored three times against the Panthers.Â
Despite a stronger showing in the second half, where Chapman scored five goals in both the third and fourth quarters, it was not enough to close the gap. Concordia's defense, led by standout goalie Pablo de Souza with ten saves, proved to be too formidable for the Panthers. Derek Maddox also helped protect the cage in the second half and collected the first three saves of his career.
CUI 7 , UCI 21
The Concordia Golden Eagles put together a gritty performance against UC Irvine. From the opening whistle, Concordia worked to establish its attack, with multiple players stepping up to contribute on the scoresheet.
Leading the way was Dimitrios Koritsas, who powered the offense with two goals and set the tone for the Eagles. Sam Diamond played one of the most complete games of the day, recording two assists and three steals while constantly disrupting UCI's rhythm on both ends of the pool. Kaliq Khan was another key playmaker, finishing with a goal and two assists, while Hugh Wouters, Lucas Riegelmann, Oscar Garcia Blomback, and Kanoa Stoddard each chipped in a goal to round out a balanced scoring effort.
Diamond and Canyon Johnson each picked off critical passes, helping fuel counterattacks, while the rest of the Eagles' defense forced UC Irvine into difficult shots. In the cage, Pablo de Souza held strong for over 21 minutes, making seven saves against a relentless Anteater attack. Derek Maddox and Hale Durbiano came on in relief and added three more stops, showing depth at the goalkeeper position.
Although UC Irvine's balanced scoring and efficiency proved difficult to contain, the Golden Eagles demonstrated they can hang with top competition. With leaders like Koritsas, Khan, and Diamond driving the offense, Concordia will look to carry this performance forward into their upcoming matches.
