The No. 16 Concordia University Irvine Golden Eagles battled toe-to-toe with the No. 2 Cal State East Bay Pioneers in Game One of Wednesday's ranked doubleheader, falling 2–0 in a tightly contested matchup that showcased the Golden Eagles' strong pitching and disciplined defense.

Concordia matched one of the nation's top teams inning-for-inning for most of the afternoon, turning the game into a competitive pitchers' duel. Starter Kacie Gossett delivered another steady performance in the circle, working 5.1 innings while allowing just one earned run and consistently limiting East Bay's scoring opportunities. Gossett kept the Golden Eagles within striking distance throughout the game, forcing the Pioneers to earn every run. Behind the plate, Morgan Kneubuhler guided the pitching staff effectively and helped control the pace against a strong East Bay lineup.

At the plate, the Golden Eagles generated traffic with four walks and continued to battle deep into counts against an undefeated opposing pitcher. Audrey Robles and Alyssa Struthers each recorded hits for Concordia, who have been two consistent Golden Eagles in the CUI lineup

Cal State East Bay finally broke the scoreless tie in the fourth inning with a two-out RBI single, then added an insurance run in the sixth. Despite the narrow loss, Concordia proved it could compete with one of the top teams in the country, keeping the game close from start to finish and giving itself opportunities late.

The strong pitching, clean defense, and competitive at-bats reinforced the Golden Eagles' momentum as they looked to bounce back in Game Two of the doubleheader.
