Isaiah Walz Earns PacWest & NCBWA Player of the Week While Wyatt Madison Named Pitcher of The Week

IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine baseball team finished the series against Biola with a split but standout individual performances earned PacWest recognition. Junior shortstop Isaiah Walz was honored as the PacWest and NCBWA Player of the Week for his exceptional offensive output while Wyatt Madison was named PacWest Pitcher of the Week following his dominant showing on the mound.

Junior shortstop Walz delivered an outstanding offensive performance during last weekend's four-game series against Biola helping the Golden Eagles earn a split. Batting out of the No. 2 spot in the lineup Walz went an impressive 10-for-16 at the plate good for a remarkable .625 batting average over the course of the series. He consistently found ways to impact the game crossing the plate ten times while also driving in five runs. His extra-base production played a key role in the CUI offense as he blasted two home runs. He also showcased his speed on the base paths swiping two stolen bases during the series.
 
The Yucaipa, Calif. native was especially consistent throughout the four contests, recording three hits in three of the games and scoring at least two runs in each matchup. His ability to reach base and generate scoring opportunities kept pressure on the Biola pitching staff all weekend.
 
Walz's recent surge has also extended his overall hitting streak to 12 games. Thanks to his hot stretch at the plate his season batting average has climbed to an impressive .398 and has a 1.060 OPS. He has collected 39 hits including three doubles, two triples, and four home runs while driving in 16 runs. His power and ability to get on base have helped him produce a strong .592 slugging percentage and a .468 on-base percentage. The shortstop has been a constant presence on the base paths scoring 25 runs and has been perfect in stolen bases going 11-for-11 on the year.
 
PacWest Pitcher of the Week
Pitcher Madison delivered a dominant performance on the mound in an 11-1 victory over Biola allowing just two hits across six innings of scoreless pitching. Madison did not surrender an earned run and struck out eight batters earning his second win of the season. This outing marked his second consecutive start without giving up a run extending an impressive stretch.
 
The left-hander set a personal best earlier this season fanning a career-high 10 batters in a standout performance against Chaminade on Feb 14.
 
Madison's contributions were not limited to pitching as he also made an impact offensively during the series. He went 7-for-14 at the plate and crossed the plate six times showcasing his ability to contribute both on the mound and with the bat.
 
The Los Alamitos, Calif. native has established himself his presence at the plate this season. He boasts a .356 batting average, accumulating 37 hits while crossing the plate 20 times and driving in 15 RBIs. His power and versatility are on full display with three home runs, five doubles, and three triples.
 
 
The Golden Eagles will be back at Golden Eagled Field as they take on Vanguard on Friday Mar. 20 in double header fashion with times 2 p.m. and around 5:30 p.m. They will finish the series down the street at Vanguard Saturday Mar. 21 with a 12 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. slated times.
