IRVINE, Calif. -
Matthew Kaiser has emerged as a key member of the Concordia baseball pitching staff ever since coming to campus as a true freshman.
Now as a junior right-hander for the Golden Eagles, Kaiser has settled in as someone who is very capable of going the distance every time he steps out on the field.
Kaiser was named both NCBWA Regional Pitcher of the Week and PacWest Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday. This comes after he pitched a total of nine innings and did not allow an earned run in two appearances.
Last Monday,
he tossed a complete game in a 7-1 win over Jessup while only allowing two hits, four walks and one unearned run to cross the plate. He had four strikeouts and picked up his second win of the season.
He also came in out of the bullpen against Menlo in the series finale to help cement an 8-1 road win over the Oaks. In that rare relief appearance,
Kaiser struck out five of the seven batters he faced and only allowed one hit.
Kaiser is now 2-2 with an ERA of 4.01 and CUI has won the game in each of his last three appearances.
In fact, in those last three outings dating back to before Valentine's Day, Kaiser has not allowed an earned run in his last 16.0 innings of work.
Concordia split both of its 4-game series with conference opponents Jessup and Menlo last week during its NorCal road trip. The Golden Eagles improved to 9-7 in conference play and will host Biola next weekend for four games beginning with a doubleheader on Friday the 13th at 2 p.m. PT.
