Ortiz Soars to New Record; Handorf Shines at Bryan Clay

IRVINE, Calif. – Members of the Concordia University Irvine track and field teams are dispersed throughout Southern California for a variety of opportunities against strong competition this week.

A flock of Golden Eagles are representing our school at the historic Bryan Clay Invitational over in Azusa.

Emma Timmermans was one of the first to compete for Concordia Thursday morning and she finished 41st in the women's 10,000 run.

Spencer Handorf had a strong showing in the 5000 run and finished 21st overall out of nearly 100 competitors. Handorf was Top 10 among NCAA DII runners in that race with a time of nearly 14 minutes and 37 seconds.

One of the highlights was also a new school record set by Alexandra Ortiz in the women's triple jump. She was part of the Concordia contingent that was competing at the Pacific Coast Invitational at Long Beach State.

Ortiz soared to a mark of 11.73 meters to claim the new spot in the CUI record books for that event.

Freshman Olivia Holmquist was superb in the high jump and was tied for fifth place with a 1.68 meter mark. Holmquist was also the top NCAA DII athlete in that event.

Karyln Schneider was also Top 10 in her long jump event with a measurement of 5.58 meters.

Meanwhile, at the Mt. Sac Relays on Friday, Max Castin placed fifth in the collegiate men's high jump with 2.00 meters.
