SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine Track & Field team competed across three different meets this past weekend, sending athletes to the Point Loma Invitational, the Aztec Coastal Track Classic, and the Oxy Distance Carnival & Spring Break Classic. The Golden Eagles delivered a strong weekend overall, highlighted by multiple event victories, standout distance performances, and several top-three finishes.
Point Loma Invitational Highlights
Competing Friday and Saturday, the Golden Eagles saw multiple athletes reach the podium on both the men's and women's sides.
Freshman Logan Jones led the way for the men, winning the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.53, while fellow freshman Owen Stults placed sixth in 2:00.10. Jones also returned later in the weekend to post a strong 3:56.92 in the 1500 meters at another meet.
The men's 4x400 relay team of Joshua Cambaliza, Mason Mizuta, Quinten Nybold, and Tyler Harvey captured first place with a time of 3:24.69, adding another victory for CUI.
In the field events, Max Castin took second place in the high jump clearing 1.95 meters, while Pierre Douat also finished second in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.80 meters.
The throws group continued its strong season as Tim Weller placed third in the discus with a mark of 51.75 meters, followed closely by Trey Vergenz in fourth at 48.85 meters. Vergenz also added a third-place finish in the hammer throw, while Weller placed sixth.
On the track, Jonathan Warrick posted a sixth-place finish in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:07.37, and later ran 15:37.35 in the 5000 meters. Tyler Harvey also earned a sixth-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 21.67.
The women's team also turned in several strong performances. Julia Pisenti had a standout meet, winning the javelin throw with a mark of 45.26 meters and later placing second in the discus with a throw of 50.90 meters. Whitney Griffith finished third in the javelin with 39.22 meters.
In the distance events, the Golden Eagles dominated the 3000-meter steeplechase, sweeping the top three spots. Olivia Reed claimed the victory in 11:58.50, followed by Lillian Strahm in second (12:18.71) and Maleah Kanayama in third (12:44.43).
Additional strong performances included Lizbeth Garcia placing fifth in the 5000 meters (18:48.89), Veronica Campbell finishing fifth in the 200 meters (25.33), and Giovana Pelascini placing fifth in the 100 meters (12.20).
Pelascini also secured a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.22, while Madison Fearonplaced fifth in the same event.
In the field events, Addison Barker placed third in the pole vault clearing 3.52 meters, while Karlyn Schneiderfinished third in the long jump (5.65 meters) and Alexandra Ortiz took sixth (5.49 meters).
Aztec Coastal Track Classic
A group of Golden Eagle distance runners competed Friday at the Aztec Coastal Track Classic and delivered impressive times against strong competition.
Emma Timmermans led the way in the women's 5000 meters, placing ninth with a time of 17:10.70.
In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Ania Kapustka finished seventh in 11:23.03, followed by Emily Littlefield in ninth with a time of 11:33.09.
Oxy Distance Carnival & Spring Break Classic
Saturday at the Oxy Distance Carnival & Spring Break Classic saw dominant performances from the Golden Eagles in the 10,000 meters.
On the women's side, Audrey Barcenas captured first place with a time of 38:10.40, while Elizabeth King finished fourth (38:33.00) and Mariza Chavez placed fifth (38:36.70).
For the men, Marcus Shin delivered a standout performance, winning the 10,000 meters in 31:26.87 to give CUI another event victory on the weekend.
Looking Ahead
The Golden Eagles will now turn their attention to their next competition at the Mangrum Invitational on March 27, where CUI will look to continue building momentum as the outdoor season progresses.
