AZUSA, Calif. / LONG BEACH, Calif. / WALNUT, Calif. – The Concordia University Irvine Track & Field team competed across three meets from April 16–18, traveling to the Bryan Clay Invitational, the Pacific Coast Invitational, and the Mt. SAC Relays. The Golden Eagles turned in a well-rounded weekend, highlighted by a sweep in the men's 1500 meters and several strong finishes across the board.
Bryan Clay Invitational
Facing high-level competition, CUI athletes posted solid results in distance and field events.
Mariza Chavez led the women's side with a 15th-place finish in the 1500 meters, clocking a time of 4:41.17.
On the men's side, Mark Lutke placed 18th in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.15 meters. Spencer Handorf added a 21st-place finish in the 5000 meters, recording a time of 14:37.51.
Pacific Coast Invitational
CUI delivered one of its strongest performances of the weekend in the men's 1500 meters, sweeping the top six positions.
Nathan Nguyen took first place in 4:09.52, followed by Jonathan Warrick in second (4:11.25) and Bryce Philbeck in third (4:11.73). Tyler Renteria finished fourth (4:12.41), Gavin Hellerstedt placed fifth (4:13.04), and Marcus Shin rounded out the group in sixth (4:13.24).
The women also had a strong showing in the 1500 meters. Lizbeth Garcia led the group with a third-place finish in 5:07.19, while Lillian Strahm placed fourth (5:07.67), Darla Medina finished fifth (5:07.84), and Maleah Kanayama took sixth (5:11.94).
In field events, Olivia Holmquist cleared 1.68 meters to place fifth in the high jump. Alexandra Ortiz added a sixth-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 11.73 meters.
Mt. SAC Relays
Max Castin represented the Golden Eagles at the Mt. SAC Relays, placing fifth in the men's high jump with a clearance of 2.00 meters.
