IRVINE, Calif. -
Joao Goncalves helped Concordia men's water polo earn its first two victories of the new season this past week. The Brazil native scored eight times in four games, including a three-goal effort against Cal State Fullerton in the season opener.
Goncalves was named WWPA Offensive Player of the Week after his standout performance. He also had three recorded assists, two steals and won a sprint over the course of Concordia's four games.
CUI defeated CSUF and also D3 contender Pomona-Pitzer last Friday. The Golden Eagles also competed against nationally-ranked LMU and UC Irvine and take a 2-2 overall record in to week two.
The Golden Eagles head to Redlands this weekend for four more games in their next tournament. Concordia will open the week on Friday against nationally-ranked CBU at 10:30 a.m. before playing a true road game against the Redlands at 3 p.m.
