Following a 7-2 win over Cerritos Junior College, Concordia Tennis swept Biola 9-0 on its home turf.
Concordia is prepared for the spring season after a successful fall showing where they had two players in the final of ITA West Regional Championships. The Eagles are starting the season with two nationally ranked players Anastasiia Kuprina (no. 7) and Ghazal Pakbaten (no.17). They also have three regionally ranked players Kuprina (no. 3), Pakbaten (no.4), and Johanna Keeline (no.20).
On Thursday afternoon, the team collected the first conference win against Biola and extended its overall record to 2-0. The doubles team of Kuprina and Samantha Schuster defeated their opponents 8-4 to get things started. Pakbaten and Keeline swept their opponents with the score of 8-4. Ghada Al-ajeely and Ashley Glick finished with a confident win over the Falcons 8-1. The Eagles continued to soar in their success, as they also won all six singles. At the top of the roster, Pakbaten defeated a freshman Esther Lee 6-1 6-0. Kuprina knocked off Madison Swaney with the score of 6-0 6-3. Keeline concluded a win with the score of 6-1 and 6-1 against a sophomore Allison Torres. Schuster battled hard and defeated Tinisee Kandakai 7-5 6-2. Al-Ajeely picked up a win over Lauren Lee 7-5 6-4. Glick capped the singles competition off with a 6-0, 6-3 win against Lily Waterhouse.
Concordia returns to the court on Wednesday at 2 p.m. against San Diego Christian College at El Cajon, Calif.
