CLAREMONT, Calif. – The CUI women's tennis team competed against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in what was their first match-up and was highlighted by a thrilling comeback victory at the top of the lineup from
Bryn Johnson in singles.
At No. 1 doubles
Bryn Johnson and Keona Dearmond represented the Golden Eagles while
Ashley Aziz and
Mikayla Avila played at No. 2. The closest contest came at No. 3 slot where
Kristyna Dvorakova and
Mianna Robinson played to a competitive 4–6 finish.
Johnson was in the No. 1 slot and delivered the match of the day for CUI. She opened with a strong 7–5 first set before her opponent pushed the contest to a deciding super tiebreak after taking the second set in a tight tiebreak. Johnson responded with composure and confidence, dominating the deciding breaker 10–4 to secure an impressive victory.
Kristyna Dvorakova took the court at No. 2 singles and competed throughout the match ultimately finishing with a 6–4 and 6–2 scoreline. At No 3, Keona Dearmond showed resilience pushing the second set late before the match concluded 6–1 and 7–5.
The Golden Eagles will be back on the CUI tennis courts Saturday Mar. 21 at 12 p.m. for senior day as they take on Stanton.
