On Wednesday morning, Women's Tennis advanced to the quarterfinals at the conference tournament after The Eagles defeated Dixie State University with an overall score of 5-1.
In doubles competition, CUI picked up two wins, coming from the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. The duo of
Anastasiia Kuprina and
Samantha Schuster bested their competition with the score of 8-6.
Ghazal Pakbaten and
Johanna Keeline took down their opponents 8-3.
In singles play, Kuprina won the No. 1 flight over Lacey Hancock with an overall score of 6-3, 2-1 retired. In the No. 3 position, Keeline picked up another win for the Eagles against Kyra Harames with the score of 6-2, 6-0. Schuster clinched the final point for Concordia, winning her game over Sabrina Longson 6-2, 6-0.
"I love the conference tournament because it's all about winning as a team rather than as an individual," Schuster said. "Clinching the match for the team was such a cool feeling, especially knowing that it wouldn't have been possible without the other girls who won before me."
CUI improved its overall record to 11-10 this season. Thursday morning at 9 a.m., the Eagles will take on the No. 2 seed, Academy of Art University.
