REDLANDS, Calif. - The Eagles were at the University of Redlands on Saturday to take on the DIII Bulldogs in another preseason contest. Though the Eagles remain short-handed on both sides, the men and women were in position to win their meets but were unable to close out the contests.
Â
The men dropped a tough one 103-102 as the Bulldogs went 1-2 on the final relay to steal the win. The women were missing two key cogs and had no answer for the UR divers and fell 122-101. Despite the setbacks, Concordia had quite a few bright spots on the day.
Â
The men swept the 400 IM with
Kyle Benjamin,
Kobe Gall,
Armando Cadena Padilla and
Maverick Donohue all getting to the wall before the first Bulldog. Minutes later,
Faith Silzel and
Mikayla Jean did the same with a 1-2 finish in the women's 400 IM. Â
Â
In all, the Eagle women took four of the five freestyle events (
Katelyn Thomas-50 free,
Sayeh Faridnia-200 free,
Roseryn Empremsilapa-500 free,
Kayleen Bretz-1000 free) as well as the meet-ending 4x50 free relay (Silzel,
Amanda Foley, Jean, Faridnia).
Â
For the men,
Taylor Steffen led the way with two wins in the distance events (500-1000 free),
Tim Townsend blasted to his second win of the season in the 50 free, and
Caden Carver and
Braeden Glor swept the first two spots in the 100 backstroke. Â
Â
The Eagles will have their third contest in as many weeks up next when they pop over to Soka University for their annual invitational on Saturday, Nov. 9. That meet will start at 10:00 a.m.Â
