IRVINE, Calif. — The Concordia University Irvine STUNT team looks forward to being one of the top performing teams this upcoming season. Backed by strong recruiting and a tough schedule in the 2020 season, the Eagles look to make a trip to nationals later in the season. College STUNT as a sport is now becoming more popular across the United States, having three different conferences (Southwest, Mid-America, and West). Concordia is in the Southern Division of the West Coast Conference and looks to bring home a division and conference title this season.
The Eagles spent most of their 2019 campaign ranked as the number four NCAA Division II team in the nation. Two returners senior
Makenna Cox and junior
Joanna Rivers were named NCAA Division II Second Team All-Americans the past two seasons. They are looking for a third claim this season. Junior
Kayce De Leon made Second Team All-American
in Concordia's 2018 campaign along with Cox and Rivers.
Concordia's 2020 schedule is not easy by any means as they compete against strong opponents this year including Michigan State, Arizona State, Brigham Young University (BYU), UC Berkeley, and Sacramento State.
Senior backspot/tumbler
Makenna Cox says, "This season we want to bring a united force to STUNT the Sport and push through all obstacles and hopefully find ourselves on the mat at nationals in May!"
The Eagles welcomed in 14 new girls ranging from transfer students to freshman to the team allowing for more versatility this season.
Concordia head coach
Amy Haney says, "This team has been working hard to prepare for another great season of STUNT. I have been impressed with the determination and commitment of this group to prepare for some tough competition this season. With the addition of a strong rookie class, this year's team is eager to get on the mat and compete together. Their training and their unique family bond are what I believe will set them apart this season."
Make sure to catch your Eagles in the first tournament of the season at home, February 8-9! They will be competing against Vanguard, Arizona State, Cal Poly Pomona, and Riverside City College.
