LA MIRADA, Calif. - With a Code Yellow in effect, the Concordia men won nine events, including rousing come-from-behind victories in the 200 free, 200 fly and 200 breaststroke as they defeated Biola in La Mirada on Saturday, 125-104.  The Concordia women won five events of their own but were unable to match Biola's depth as they fell, 104-130. Â
Â
Kyle Benjamin was a monster with three individual wins (200 free, 200 fly, 500 free) against three different top swimmers from Biola in those events.Â
Austin Barton won the 100 free and led a 1-2-3 Eagle sweep in the 50 free (with
Alberto Cortes and
Tim Townsend right behind) for the 2nd week in a row. The threesome teamed with Maxwell Wickens to close out the meet with a win in the 4x50 free relay. Max won both the 1m and 3m diving events posting season highs on both boards. Â
Skyler Hojnacki paced Biola's senior PCSC defending champ in the 200 breast and moved past him with 25 yards to go to grab an important victory for CUI in that event.
Â
The women had a great start to the day as
Kayla Newman and Kiki Bieger finished second and third respectively on the 1m board and then Newman came from behind to win the 3m competition starting a run of four wins for CUI.Â
Â
The women's 400 medley relay (
Katelyn Thomas,
Emily Kivisto,
Sayeh Faridnia,
Maddie Dodge) rolled to a big win,
Jamie Seddon made a move at the 550 and grabbed an upset win in the 1000 free and Dodge and
Faith Silzel, in second and third at the 150 mark of the 200, rallied to finish 1-2 in that race as
Mikayla Jean powered home to grab fourth place.Â
Katelyn Thomas later won the 50 free in a solid time earning the Eagles their fifth and final win on the day.
Â
Other Eagles contributed mightily in the effort tracking down Biola swimmers to grab valuableseconds and thirds including
Taylor Steffen (3rd, 500 free),
Armando Cadena Padilla (3rd, 200 IM),
Kobe Gall (3rd, 200 back), Townsend (3rd, 100 free), Silzel (2nd, 200 IM), Jean (2nd, 200 fly), Kivisto (2nd, 200 breast), and
Joey Fitzsimmons (3rd, 200 butterfly).
Â
Thank you to everyone who attended the meet to cheer on the Eagles.Â
