IRVINE, Calif.-
Rebekah Anderson from CUI women's tennis is the latest Newport Rib Company Eagle of the Week!
Anderson went 6-3 this season in singles at the number two position. She ended the singles matches off winning three straight for the Green and Gold. Her competitive edge and talent helped her be victorious throughout the season.Â
"For me, it helped knowing I had the support of my coaches and teammates behind me every match," said Anderson. "Also, just knowing how important that one point can be really pushed me to try to pull out matches in the end."
Anderson was also a key component in the doubles match ups with her partner
Ghazal Pakbaten. The power team won the first eight matches and then lost to Sonoma State in a close match 4-6. Anderson ended the season with an outstanding doubles record at 8-1.
"I think what helped us to be successful was knowing that we're playing for our team," stated Anderson. "Also, having good chemistry with each other and learning how to communicate during matches helped us throughout the season."
With her success she was asked about any pre-game rituals or superstitions as many athletes have something they like to do before each game or match.
"I'm really not a superstitious person," replied Anderson. "But I usually have to put a new over grip on my racket before a match. Also, I usually have to talk to my teammates or someone to get nerves out!"
