IRVINE, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine track and field teams had an exciting weekend at the Northwest Open hosted by Northwest Missouri State. Both teams took a small group of athletes up to Maryville, Missouri to compete in the season opener.
On Friday, the women's team placed in second for distance medley relay. In that group was Morgan Schepker, Jori Paradis, Madison Hergert, and Sara Feitz.
On Saturday, both teams had memorable finishes. The women's team had multiple standouts including Mikayla Butler, Paige Johnson, Sarah Fajer, Feitz, and Paradis.
Butler finished third in the 60-meter hurdles for the preliminary and final round. Johnson placed in the preliminary for the 60-meter dash and proceeded to win the event. She also placed third in long jump and fourth in high jump.
Feitz and Paradis also had great performances on Saturday. Feitz finished third in the 800-meter run with a finish time of 2:24:34. Paradis placed second in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:23:32, an overall best for her.
Switching over to the men's team, two major standouts are Kessler O'Brien and Gunnar Ashmon. O'Brien placed seventh overall in the long jump followed by teammates Mike Ervin and Quincy Jones who placed in 11th and 13th place.
Ashmon came in strong for his team winning his heat and scoring a personal record!
CUI's next meet is January 29th at the Washburn Open. The Washburn open will be hosted by Washburn University located in Topeka, Kansas.
