IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 23 women's tennis team has been named the ITA UTR DII Women's Team of the Month!

The Eagles make history as this is the first time for CUI women's tennis to be acknowledged with this award in the NCAA DII era. This award is earned by a collegiate tennis team that showed the largest increase in the UTR Power 6 rating in the past month.

In March, the Eagles won eight out of nine matches, and the only one they lost was to No. 11 Azusa Pacific. The Green and Gold posted three shutouts and in total only allowed 10 points to their opponents throughout the entire month of March.

The Eagles increased 0.64 in the UTR Power 6 and now have a score of 49.84. The ITA rankings will be coming out on Apr. 7 which the Eagles will be awaiting to see if they moved up from the No. 23 position.

"I could not be prouder of our women's tennis program for being selected as the ITA Team of the Month" said head coach Jonathan Sanchez. "This speaks volumes to the amazingly talented, hard-working, and passionate women that make up the CUI women's tennis program. This past month was a very difficult time with our No. 1 singles and doubles player out of the lineup for three weeks due to injury and myself being in quarantine for two weeks. However, our team rallied together and played some unbelievable tennis to go on a six-game winning streak. I also would like to thank our women's grad assistant, Lucas Taylor, who covered for me during my quarantine and did a tremendous job."

The Eagles have fought through many obstacles all year and performing extraordinarily. They are currently 10-3 overall with a win percentage of 77%. They are scheduled to play their next match on Friday, April 9 at home against Biola.
