IRVINE, Calif. - Fresh off a four-game sweep of pesky Hawai'i Hilo, the nationally-ranked Concordia softball team is your PacWest Team of the Week!
The first-place Golden Eagles are 14-0 in conference play after topping the Vulcans. CUI brought a 15-game winning streak into St. Patrick's Day weekend with seven non-conference games up next on the schedule.
The Golden Eagles were backed last week by multiple strong pitching efforts by
Katlin Entrup, who earned two of the four victories in the circle. The PacWest Preseason Pitcher of the Year who was also last year's award winner, has now won the weekly award three times this semester.
Entrup tossed a
complete game shutout in the series opener this past Friday. Concordia won 3-0 in a game that also featured freshman
Tessa Jerue hitting her first career home run.
For the week, she pitched 14.0 innings and only allowed one earned run and eight hits, and did not allow any extra-base hits. She struck out six, but pitched more to contact against the talented Vulcans.
CUI then won each of the next three contests by identical 3-2 final scores. Entrup again earned the win in the first game on Saturday - even with the teams having to go nine innings to decide it. Second baseman
Mary Baccay walked off the Vulcans with a bloop single to end things in the bottom of the ninth.
CUI hosts another Top 25 ranked team on Tuesday, March 19 in a non-conference doubleheader that starts at 3 p.m.
