IRVINE, Calif.- As the 2024 track and field season begins to come to a close, the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released the all-region honorees for the outdoor season. To make the list, athletes need to have finished their regular season ranked the top five in an event in their respective regions. CUI is a part of the west region, and had 9 athletes make the lists for 10 all-region marks.
On the women's side,
Tayla Crenshaw made the list twice. The graduate student was among the top of the region in both the discus throw and the hammer throw, for which she now owns the school record. Also on the throws side,
Khaiya Simpson was recognized for her breakout season in the discus ending with Concordia's highest mark this season. Finally,
Sarah Fajer was recognized for her performance in the shot put.
The women also made a statement on the track as four athletes found themselves on the list in three different events.
Jori Paradis ran her way up the rankings in the 1500m straight to a national appearance. The graduate student will compete at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships on May 23-25. Also on the distance side is
Maddie Jahshan who, along with a new school record, earned a spot on the list for her success in the 10,000m this season. Finally, the dynamic duo of
Maria Sartin and
Bethany Schmidt both landed themselves on the list for their continuous improvement in the 400m hurdles. The duo both surpassed the school record in the same race twice this season, but Sartin has maintained her grasp on it by barely edging out her teammate.
On the men's side, the field events prevailed as the two honorees are a long jumper and a discus thrower. To no one's surprise,
Dylan Fox earned recognition for his performance in the long jump. The junior is set to make his third consecutive national appearance in his third season as an NCAA athlete. He will also compete at the 2024 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships on May 23-25. In the discus, Trey Vergenz threw the discus straight into the region's top five. The freshman hit CUI's first NCAA provisional in the men's throwing events since 2019. Stay tuned because both of these men will be back next year!
