IRVINE, Calif. – What a way to cap off opening weekend!
The Concordia University Irvine track and field team took advantage of their opportunities in the Midwest on Saturday, with a ton of eye-opening performances at the Concordia Classic. The meet was hosted by Concordia Nebraska, the same school that CUI head coach
Keegan Bloomfield graduated from and as former track and field student-athlete.
Jasmyn Crawford soared to new heights as she turned in a new personal best of 6.02 meters to break the facility record and meet record. That performance placed her Top 5 in the nation. It was also in the ball park of the school record which is still owned by Sarah Herron (6.15m for the indoor long jump at Concordia set back in 2019).
After catching her breath, Crawford was later able to win the women's 60m dash to finish an outstanding weekend. She was joined by both
Ruby Bishop and
Logan Nelson who would finish 6th and 11th respectively.
Taylor Whitfield's performance lit the track on fire with her immaculate performance in the women's mile that gave her a new meet record of 5:05.99 and a second-place finish to put her in the top 100 in all of NCAA DII.
Porshe Eismann finished third and also made this list just ahead of fellow teammates
Mariza Chavez and
Elizabeth King. Together that trio all attained Top 10 finishes.
Nevaeh Dyer threw 12.81 to place second in her flight for women's shotput and placed sixth overall.
Giovana Pelascini placed fourth in the women's 60m hurdles race to cap off her tremendous weekend.
Pelascini set her own school record on Friday.
The women's 4x4 quartet ran a season opener that finished second to end the weekend on a high note.
On the men's side, Max Castin had a consistent week with another performance that earned him third place in this weekend's competition at Concordia Nebraska.
Joshua Collier was able to reach a new personal best of 8.21, shattering his yesterday's mark to put him second in the final ahead of
Parker Williams who finished third.
Lucas Grunden would place third with a time of 1:23.03 while Garret Miller placed sixth in the men's 800m ahead of teammate Collin Bervig. The two would swap places in the mile with Colin finishing ninth and Garret right behind him in the Top 10.
CUI thrower extraordinaire
Ryan Santana put on a clinic in the men's shot put to finish first in his flight with a personal record of 15.15m. Santana's performance placed him just ahead of new Golden Eagle
Tim Weller and veteran teammate
Hunter Hornaday.
Returning PacWest Freshman of the Year
Trey Vergenz would finish off the day in extreme fashion winning the men's weight throw and placing fourth in the men's shot put.
