IRVINE, Calif. – The CUI women's lacrosse team had another outstanding day at the Santa Barbara Shootout, winning against Sonoma State and UCLA in impressive fashion. The Golden Eagles defeated Sonoma State 17-1 and UCLA 12-5 to extend their perfect run.
CUI 17, Sonoma State 1
The Golden Eagles wasted no time in their first game, dominating Sonoma State with a 17-1 victory. Lexi Miner led the way with 4 goals, getting the team off to a fast start. CUI had 11 different players score, showing just how deep their offense is.
Freshmen Abby Broadwell and Alexandria Bennet both scored their first career goals, adding to the excitement of the win. CUI's offense was unstoppable, and their defense kept Sonoma State from getting any real scoring chances.
CUI 12, UCLA 5
In their second game of the day, CUI took down UCLA 12-5. The Golden Eagles' defense was on fire, shutting down UCLA's attack while controlling possession. Freshman Shaylin Tveter had a standout performance on defense, making several key stops.
Sophia Lindall led the scoring with 5 goals, helping the Golden Eagles stay in control throughout the game. Sofia Serrato was dominant in the draw circle, winning possession for CUI and setting up fast breaks.
Next Game
CUI will play their final game of the tournament tomorrow, Feb. 9, at 10:00 AM against UC Davis. The Golden Eagles are looking to keep their strong play going and finish the tournament with a win.
