IRVINE, CALIF. – The No. 3 Golden Eagles improved to 7-0 on the season after scoring the first nine goals of the game, powering past UCI in a dominant 19-2 victory.
The Green and Gold came out firing from the opening draw, establishing control on both ends of the field early. The Golden Eagles' offense wasted little time finding its rhythm, stringing together nine unanswered goals to build a commanding lead before UCI could get on the board. The quick start set the tone for the rest of the contest as CUI dictated the pace and controlled possession throughout the first half.
The Golden Eagles finished the first quarter with five goals and continued to build their lead in the second, adding another five scores to take a 10-1 advantage into halftime. Concordia's offense remained balanced throughout the half, with Presley Macktinger recording multiple goals throughout the first half. Macktinger finished with five goals to lead the squad.
CUI kept the momentum rolling after the break, adding four more goals in the third The Golden Eagles closed the game with five additional goals in the fourth quarter to cap off the 19-goal performance.
Goalkeepers Darby McGregor and Kylie Glover were fantastic and split duties in the cage. Both goalies limited UCI to only one goal in each half.
With the win, the Green and Gold improve to 7-0 on the season and continue to build momentum as the year progresses. The Golden Eagles will look to carry their undefeated start into their next match-up this Saturday, March 7th at 6 p.m. PT against UC Santa Cruz.
