COSTA MESA, Calif. - An unorthodox Thursday at nearby Orange Coast College saw a small group of Concordia Golden Eagles have the opportunity to showcase their skills. Among many impressive performances, the stars of the day were the heptathletes.
Giovana Pelascini won three of four events on the first day and
Riley Norris placed second in a very strong outing in four events to sweep the top two spots going into Day 2. They both lead the field by 500+ points as their march towards conference continues.
The men's hammer throw was also an exciting event where the Golden Eagles made a name for themselves.
Trey Vergenz claimed the top spot in the competition with a remarkable throw of 51.03 meters, taking first place and leading the team to a dominant finish.
Hunter Hornaday, fresh off his javelin performance, also had a solid showing in the hammer throw, securing fourth place with a throw of 40.61m.
Meanwhile,
Ashley Heyer was the standout performer in the women's section, earning second place with a throw of 41.08 meters. Not far behind her was
Isabella Torrez, who secured third place with a throw of 38.39 meters.
Elenise Fotu was also in the mix with a long throw of 36.13.
The men's javelin had two Golden Eagles making their presence known. Hornaday made his mark by finishing thirrd with a throw of 44.38 meters, delivering a strong and determined performance.
Kahiau Helm followed closely in fourth place, throwing 42.91 meters, showing great promise and consistency in the event.
