LA MIRADA, Calif. - With eight impressive wins and a single loss on their record, the women's lacrosse team continues to blaze ahead of the competition. The Biola Eagles couldn't handle the heat and fell to Concordia 22-1.
The Golden Eagles have dished out multiple high-scoring matches thus far in the season and don't seem to be stopping anytime soon. Over the course of their nine matches, only eight goals have been allowed in a single game. This match marks yet another single-goal shutout for Concordia.
Multiple Golden Eagles flew past Biola's defense and contributed to the 20-point lead. Within the first period, Concordia outscored Biola by 11 goals and held them to zero until the third period. Freshmen Sophia Lindall and Abby Broadwell were big contributors to the win, as well as junior Riley Finch and Stiles Bennett who helped lead the offensive charge. Things couldn't get started without the help of Courtney Miller and Sofia Serrato who cut through the Eagles' defense and tallied a pair of clutch assists.
In the second half, Biola tried to make a stand with its first goal of the night, but Concordia didn't let that slow it down. Four defenders scored for the first time this season—Kennedi Tuliau, Maya Kay, Adriana Sanchez-Mendoza, and Diana Quiroz pushed CUI to new heights, surpassing 20 goals within the final period.
The defensive line was steadfast and reliable during moments of high pressure. CUI's two goalies, Darby McGregor and Kylie Glover, were dynamic between the bars and collectively had six saves against Biola. Their fast reaction times, high energy, and ability to effectively delegate the defensive line separated them from the opposing goalies.
Biola was outscored from the get-go and Concordia proved it could hold its own in the Eagle Showdown. It's the third-straight win for the Golden Eagles and they are officially on the hunt for the next one.
