IRVINE, Calif. – Concordia University Irvine track and field turned in a strong opening day at the Steve Scott Invitational, recording multiple Top 10 finishes and two new school records as the Eagles split competition this weekend.
Highlighting the meet for CUI, Julia Pisenti delivered a winning performance in the women's javelin. The junior recorded a throw of 45.28 meters to take first place while also setting a new school record, continuing to raise the bar in her signature event.
On the men's side, Max Castin added another record-breaking mark for the Eagles in the high jump. The senior cleared 2.04 meters to finish third overall, establishing a new school record and leading Concordia in the field events.
In distance action, Spencer Handorf posted a strong race in the men's 1500 meters, finishing fifth with a time of 4:01.07 to secure a Top 10 finish.
The women's distance group also produced solid results, led by Emma Timmermans, who placed seventh in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:42.67. In the 800 meters, Olivia Reed added another Top 10 finish, crossing the line in 2:20.13 to take 10th.
In the field events, Olivia Holmquist cleared 1.69 meters to place seventh in the women's high jump, while Alexandra Ortiz earned a Top 10 finish in the triple jump with a mark of 11.26 meters to place ninth.
The Golden Eagles also saw a strong showing in the throws, as Tim Weller placed 10th in the men's discus with a toss of 51.09 meters, rounding out the Top 10 performances for Concordia on Saturday.
Across both meets, CUI showcased depth and consistency with contributors in distance, jumps, and throws as the postseason approaches.
Concordia will return to action on May 7 at the Franson Last Chance Meet, where the team will look to post qualifying marks and continue building on their strong outdoor campaign.
