Fullerton, Calif.- Women's Lacrosse starts the season off with a statement beating Fullerton College 11-5 on Feb. 11.

The returners paved the way to victory for the CUI Eagles lacrosse team as four returning seniors and one junior stood out in the pack.  Amanda Morgan led the team in scoring with four goals and added in one assist and three ground balls.  Mitxi Herrera also had no problem finding the net as she scored three goals and was able to add an assist as well.  Herrera proved to be aggressive as she won 50% of her draws and swooped up five ground balls.  Celine Rios added two goals and an assist as well, she really stood out as she hustled and grabbed eight ground balls to give the Eagles more possession time.  Tamia Shoshone threw in one goal, earned an assist, and picked up three ground balls.  Shoshone showed her intensity through the draws as she won all seven, going 100%.  Then in front of the net the Eagles had Yessenia Alvarez with five saves to help keep the Eagles in the lead. 

This was Coach Dylan Miles first win as the women's lacrosse head coach.  

"I was very excited to start the season with the win," said Miles. " With it being the first game of the season, there was the obvious first game nerves but being able to get a game in before the Santa Barbara Shootout allowed us to get those nerves out and improve for this weekend. I thought we battled hard and now know what is needed to be a successful team this year."

With the Eagles first win under their belt they prepare for Santa Barbara Shootout where they will face Nevada Reno at 8:00 a.m. and Stanford at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday Feb. 15.  Then compete against Central Washington at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday Feb. 16.  For the full women's lacrosse schedule click here.
