READY FOR THE SPOTLIGHT
CUI posted an impressive 2-1-1 record against nationally-ranked opponents this fall which strengthened its case in the regional rankings to secure an at-large bid to the tournament. The Golden Eagles defeated Point Loma twice - including once on the road when the Sea Lions were ranked No. 6 in the nation - and also collected a good result at then-No. 10 Western Washington by salvaging a 1-1 draw. Western Washington is the No. 2 seed in this regional and is hosting Point Loma (No. 3 seed) on Saturday on the other side of the bracket. Point Loma defeated No. 6 seed Sonoma State 1-0 on Thursday, giving the PacWest Conference three of the four teams in this regional semifinal stage.
HIGH FIVE FOR ALL-CONFERENCE SELECTIONS
A quintet of CUI women's soccer players earned All-Conference accolades on Wednesday.
Jadenn Carrillo was named First Team All-Conference for the second time in her career. Carrillo was also tabbed as PacWest Player of the Week on Monday after scoring a hat trick in
CUI's 7-0 win over Academy of Art. The Villa Park High School alum leads CUI with 10 goals and seven assists.
Former Centennial High School & club teammates
Gabby Breton and
Layla Comeaux were voted Second Team All-PacWest for the second straight year by coaches around the league. The pair consistently helps with the buildup on attacks and battle in the midfield and along the wings for possession.
Riley Walkington and defender
Brianna Guerra were also recognized for their hard work on the pitch as Third Team selections. Walkington is second on the squad in goals scored and Guerra has provided a punch both offensively and defensively on a consistent basis this entire season. It's the first time Guerra has been recognized at this level and Walkington was a First Team selection last fall.
